Heat oven to 435 degrees F. Arrange oven rack to upper third position. Line a baking sheet with a parchment paper.
In a food processor, add flour, sugar, salt baking powder, and baking soda and blend briefly. Add shortening and pulse to make a coarse , grainy mixture. Sprinkle buttermilk over flour mix, stirring lightly with a fork till ingredients are evenly moistened. Turn out dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead a few more times until the dough holds together.
Roll out to 1/2 " thickness and cut with a 2 " cookie cutter. place on prepared baking sheets. Butter tops with (melted) butter and dust with a little bit of flour. Bake until light brown abut 12-14 minutes. Enjoy!.
